Carrying banners and chanting for change, the demonstrators highlighted urgent concerns centered on fundamental human rights: access to clean water, reliable electricity, and basic security.

Participants denounced the ongoing hardships in Madagascar, pointing to a government that has failed to address these issues for years. “Our people deserve dignity,” one protester said, calling for social justice and the right to speak freely without fear of reprisal.

The rally drew attention to stark realities back home: students forced to take their exams by candlelight, small business owners losing their livelihoods, and households struggling in daily darkness due to chronic power shortages.

For the Malagasy community in Montreal, the gathering was not only a plea for change but also an affirmation of unity with their loved ones thousands of kilometers away.
